Sinus Lifting

Sinus lifting is a surgical procedure performed to increase the amount of bone in the upper jaw, specifically in the area of the molars, where the maxillary sinuses are located. It is typically required when there is insufficient bone height to support dental implants.

This condition is especially common in cases where teeth have been missing for a long time. After tooth extraction, ongoing bone resorption in the jaw may lead to a reduction in bone volume, eventually making it inadequate for implant placement.

During the sinus lifting procedure, the membrane known as the sinus lining (sinus membrane) is gently lifted from the floor of the sinus cavity. Bone graft material—either synthetic or mixed with the patient’s own bone—is then placed into the newly created space. Over time, this graft material transforms into natural bone, providing a stable foundation for dental implant placement.

Sinus lifting performed prior to implant treatment plays a crucial role in the success of the implants. Patients with insufficient bone volume can benefit from this procedure and achieve healthy, long-lasting teeth through implant therapy.
